About Project

Why 5G4PHealth

Introduction

Patient data is often split across hospitals, apps and national systems that do not talk to each other. This slows care down and leaves patients with little control over their own information. 5G4PHealth builds an interconnected, patient-centred healthcare ecosystem in which data can be shared securely in real time, AI tools support clinicians, and patients take part in their own care.

Key Objectives

  • AI services for posture and movement analysis and for adolescent depression risk screening
  • Fast, reliable communication over 5G and semantic communication methods
  • A connected hospital platform that receives bedside and ward device data
  • Cross-border results that appear in one patient record

P4 Healthcare

  • Predictive: AI models estimate risk early, from movement or from cognitive and voice signals.
  • Preventive: earlier signals give clinicians time to act before a condition worsens.
  • Personalised: analysis is based on the individual patient's own measurements.
  • Participatory: patients see their data and manage access to it.

AI outputs in 5G4PHealth are research estimates that support professionals. They are not medical diagnoses. The consortium documents its AI systems against the EU AI Act and the GDPR.

Project Consortium

Collaborating for Healthcare Innovation

Overview

The 5G4PHealth consortium brings together ten partners in four countries (Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain and Türkiye): hospital technology providers, AI developers, universities, a security company and a legal partner. Artech International (Belgium) coordinates the project.

Our Approach

How the 5G4PHealth platform fits together

One Shared Identity

A patient has one identifier on the hospital platform. Partner services trust a signed token from the hub, so the patient signs in once instead of three times.

Results Flow Back to One Record

AI services in other countries send their results back to the hospital platform, where they sit next to the patient record.

Fast, Reliable Communication

5G and efficient (semantic) communication methods carry video and sensor data from the edge to the platform.

Patients in Control

A patient health wallet shows the record and lets the patient decide who may see which data.

Use Cases

Three national demonstrators, one platform

Posture and Movement Analysis (United Kingdom)

A single-camera, markerless motion capture service analyses movement tasks such as walking, squats and lunges from ordinary video. It was validated against laboratory-grade optical motion capture in a study with 15 volunteers.

University of Essex, Metrarc, Brunel University London

Adolescent Depression Risk Screening (Spain)

An AI research tool combines executive-function assessments and voice-based markers to estimate indicators associated with depression risk in adolescents. Results are intended for review by qualified professionals.

IDAVINCI, Horus ML

Connected Hospital Platform (Türkiye)

The hospital platform holds the patient record, issues single sign-on tokens to partner services and receives their results. A gateway collects data from bedside and ward devices for monitoring.

Rasyomed, Karel, Kafein Technology Solutions

Patient Health Wallet (Cross-cutting)

A patient-facing wallet shows the profile, measurements and partner results held on the platform, and lets the patient grant and revoke access per recipient. Sign-in follows the direction of the European Digital Identity Wallet.

Artech International

Each use case is developed by partners in one country and connected to the shared platform, so that results from one country can appear in a patient record in another.
